CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CARE & EDUCATION PRACTICE

Apart from the few specialised Childcare Centre and Children Care Centres that cater for Children with Special Needs, there are many mainstream Childcare and Children Care Centres that accept Children with Special Needs. For these mainstream and specialised Centres, there is a critical need for Caregivers to have specialised skills to care, develop and rehabilitate Children with Special Needs. This is more so with the policy of inclusion where Children with Special Needs are mixed with non-disabled children. Caregivers for Children with Special Needs is a specialised profession. They care and assist in the development of Children with Special Needs by providing individualized care plans (ICP) for their development and rehabilitation. Apart from that, they are also responsible to provide routine care such as meals, bathing, sleep and rest. They ensure the children’s safety and security; and monitor behaviors and self-help skills.
