The Bachelor of Technology in Facility Management with Honours is a four year full-time course involving eight semesters. This programme which adopts work-based learning (WBL) approach is a form of pedagogy that blends classroom instructions with structured real-life working experience which prepares students for a competitive edge in today's workplace. The programme aim is gearing towards the growth of productivity by having qualified and industry-ready manpower. Prior to that, the curriculum requires students to complete six semester at their respective institutions (polytechnics), then the students will undergo their further on site training on attachment at the relevant industries for the next two semesters (7th and 8th). This programme is designed to provide theoretical knowledge and combined with on-site practical experience in the specific areas. Students will be taught a combination of soft business management skills and technical skills. Important areas of study include organizational behavior, financial planning & management, real estate, asset management, procurement and contract management, project planning & management, operation & maintenance, engineering plant, workshop & store management, health & occupational safety, total quality management, statutory requirements, energy management, green technology, environmental management & sustainability and management information system. Students' learning will be enhanced through a two semester internship during which they should acquire the practices skills and proficiency in facility management and reinforce students' professional knowledge for further studies and career development in future. The programme is designed with reference to the nine competencies defined by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) for a Facility Professional to cater to the needs of the industry.
